Platform-specific installation guides

macOS (Apple Silicon)

  1. Download Derby-latest-macos.pkg from the download page
  2. Double-click the PKG file to open the installer
  3. Follow the installation wizard
  4. Launch Derby from Applications
Gatekeeper

Derby is signed and notarized by Apple. If you see a security warning, go to System Settings > Privacy & Security and click "Open Anyway".

Windows (64-bit)

  1. Download Derby-latest-windows.exe from the download page
  2. Run the installer
  3. Follow the installation wizard
  4. Launch Derby from the Start menu or desktop shortcut
SmartScreen

Windows may show a SmartScreen warning. Click "More info" then "Run anyway". Derby is signed with a trusted certificate.

Linux (64-bit)

  1. Download Derby-latest-linux.AppImage from the download page
  2. Make the file executable: chmod +x Derby-latest-linux.AppImage
  3. Run: ./Derby-latest-linux.AppImage

Automatic Updates

Derby includes automatic updates. When a new version is available, you'll be notified and can update with one click. Updates are delta-based, so only changed files are downloaded.

Uninstalling

  • macOS: Drag Derby from Applications to Trash
  • Windows: Use "Add or Remove Programs" in Settings
  • Linux: Delete the AppImage file
