Your First Tournament

This comprehensive guide walks you through running a complete tournament from start to finish, including recording outcomes and generating reports.

Prerequisites

  • Derby installed and running
  • Completed the Quick Start guide
  • At least 5 teams with 4 cards each

Step 1: Tournament Setup

Create a new tournament with proper configuration:

  1. Go to File > New Tournament
  2. Enter tournament name and location
  3. Set cards per team (typically 4)
  4. Configure scoring (default: 3 for win, 1 for tie, 0 for loss)

Step 2: Register Players

Add all participating players (team owners):

  1. Go to the Players tab
  2. Click + to add each player
  3. Enter player names clearly for reports

Step 3: Register Teams

Add teams with their cards:

  1. Go to the Teams tab
  2. Click + to add a team
  3. Select the owner (player)
  4. Add 4 cards with weights in grams
  5. Use F5 to read from a connected scale

Step 4: Generate Schedule

  1. Go to the Matching tab
  2. Click Generate or press Ctrl+G
  3. Review the generated schedules
  4. Select the best quality schedule

Step 5: Record Outcomes

As fights complete, record the results:

  1. Select the current fight in the schedule
  2. Click Green Win, Red Win, or Tie
  3. Rankings update automatically

Step 6: Generate Reports

Print reports for distribution:

  1. Go to Reports menu
  2. Select report type (Teams, Fights, Scores, Stripes)
  3. Click Generate PDF
  4. Print or share the PDF
