Weight Scales

Basic feature

Derby connects directly to USB and serial weight scales to capture card weights automatically. Press F5 to read the current weight into the selected card.

Supported Scales

USB/HID (Plug-and-play)

These scales use the standard 6-byte HID protocol and work without drivers:

  • Dymo — M10, M25, S100, S250
  • Mettler-Toledo — PS60, Ariva
  • Stamps.com — 5 lb model
  • Pitney Bowes — integrated series
  • Fairbanks — Ultegra, SCB
  • Charder — MS series

Serial (Mexican Market)

Popular in Mexico, these use RS-232 serial connection at 9600 baud:

  • Torrey — LEQ, PCR, EQB, EQM (very popular)
  • Rhino — BAR-8 (continuous mode supported)

Setup

Connect the scale

Plug in your scale via USB or serial. For serial scales, you may need a USB-to-serial adapter.

Open Scale Settings

Go to Settings > Scale or click the scale icon in the toolbar.

Select scale type

Choose USB/HID or Serial. For serial, select the COM port.

Test the connection

Place a weight on the scale and click Test. The weight should display.

Reading Weights

  1. Go to the Teams tab
  2. Select a card row
  3. Place the card on the scale
  4. Press F5 or click the scale button
  5. The weight is recorded in grams
Continuous Mode

Some Torrey and Rhino scales send weight continuously. Derby detects stable readings automatically.

Troubleshooting

Scale not detected

  • Try a different USB port
  • Restart Derby after connecting
  • Check Device Manager (Windows) for the device
  • For serial: verify COM port number and baud rate (9600)

Incorrect readings

  • Ensure scale is calibrated
  • Check unit setting (grams vs ounces)
  • Wait for stable reading before pressing F5
