Weight Scales
Derby connects directly to USB and serial weight scales to capture card weights automatically. Press F5 to read the current weight into the selected card.
Supported Scales
USB/HID (Plug-and-play)
These scales use the standard 6-byte HID protocol and work without drivers:
- Dymo — M10, M25, S100, S250
- Mettler-Toledo — PS60, Ariva
- Stamps.com — 5 lb model
- Pitney Bowes — integrated series
- Fairbanks — Ultegra, SCB
- Charder — MS series
Serial (Mexican Market)
Popular in Mexico, these use RS-232 serial connection at 9600 baud:
- Torrey — LEQ, PCR, EQB, EQM (very popular)
- Rhino — BAR-8 (continuous mode supported)
Setup
Connect the scale
Plug in your scale via USB or serial. For serial scales, you may need a USB-to-serial adapter.
Open Scale Settings
Go to Settings > Scale or click the scale icon in the toolbar.
Select scale type
Choose USB/HID or Serial. For serial, select the COM port.
Test the connection
Place a weight on the scale and click Test. The weight should display.
Reading Weights
- Go to the Teams tab
- Select a card row
- Place the card on the scale
- Press
F5or click the scale button - The weight is recorded in grams
Some Torrey and Rhino scales send weight continuously. Derby detects stable readings automatically.
Troubleshooting
Scale not detected
- Try a different USB port
- Restart Derby after connecting
- Check Device Manager (Windows) for the device
- For serial: verify COM port number and baud rate (9600)
Incorrect readings
- Ensure scale is calibrated
- Check unit setting (grams vs ounces)
- Wait for stable reading before pressing F5
