Flexible Entries

Match phases where some teams have fewer registered entries, without changing the matching mode you selected.

What it solves

Flexible Entries is an add-on feature for phase matching. It lets Derby combine event sizes in the same phase, such as 3-entry groups alongside teams that register a fourth entry.

Instead of requiring the same number of elements for every team, Derby uses each team's available entries and builds the fight slots that can still be scheduled.

  • Mixed event sizes — Combine teams with different numbers of registered entries in one phase
  • Incomplete registrations — Keep matching when a weight is missing, an entry was omitted, or registration is incomplete
  • Same matching mode — Works with Round, Simple and Tagged without becoming a separate mode
  • Fill-ins — Company entries and wildcards can still complete odd counts when needed

How it behaves

Derby keeps the selected mode and adjusts fight slots based on the entries each team has available. In Round mode, it distributes those entries across the rounds where they can participate. In non-round modes, it uses them to build the fight list.

  • Round — Distributes available entries across the rounds that can still be scheduled
  • Simple — Builds a flat fight list from the available entries
  • Tagged — Matches available entries inside their tag groups

Advantages

  • Supports mixed event sizes
  • Avoids blocking an entire phase because of incomplete registrations
  • Works as an add-on to the selected mode

Considerations

  • Requires an Advanced license
  • Teams with fewer entries naturally have fewer fight slots available
